2011 Ends with the Inspiring World of Redken!

Bella Bethesda was thrilled to host Platform Artist, Jason Gribbin from Redken 5^th Avenue, on Monday, November 28^th, who taught us about the Inspiring World of Redken.  Jason had a gifted way of coaching each individual stylist to foster their own strengths and skills.  He shared his knowledge on the current trends and techniques and made sure that the stylists continue to think outside the box when working with their own clients.  Jason’s passion for teaching, with a focus on personal growth and development exudes in everything he does.  During the four hour class he touched upon color, cutting, braiding and curling.  With a lot of information to take in, our experienced stylists here at Bella were excited for the opportunity to further grow and develop their skills.

Leading up to Jason’s arrival, we had multiple stylists out of the salon furthering their own individual education.  Stylists, Abby, Courtney and co-owner Lindsey all traveled to the West Coast to the Vidal Sassoon Academy in Santa Monica, Ca. from October 11 – 15^th.  This was Abby’s first Creative Cutting class where she learned to take techniques from the ABC Cutting class and fuse them together to make creative cutting combinations.  “The haircuts taught in this class were more “over the top” looks with extreme flair, but they can definitely be turned into everyday looks”, says Abby.  The stylists all agree that going back to cover the basics, cleaning the sections, leaves no room for error when using these techniques. 

Just a week later stylists Demetrios, Cintia and Tania traveled to the Redken Exchange in Manhattan, NY for Color 911-The Next Generation, on October 24^th – 26^th. This class focused on color correction in terms of multiple colors. You may think that this class would involve brassy yellows, oranges, pinks and purples, but that was not the case at all. “One of the hardest colors to tweak is red heads.  Most clients cannot expect perfection within one visit to the salon, as color correction is a work in progress,” says Demetrios.  The team left NY with valuable methods and techniques that will create easier and more economical procedures, while also maintaining the integrity of the hair.

5 Day Creative Cutting Course in Miami Beach

Bella Bethesda stylists, Katie and Indira, spent the last week of summer in sunny Miami Beach at the exclusive Vidal Sassoon Academy.  They were very excited to further their education by attending Creative Cutting, a course focusing on developing creative looks and innovative cutting techniques specifically tailored for each client.

Since completing the course, both Katie and Indira feel that their clients love the new looks, new cutting techniques and of course their new hair styles.  As a stylist, staying motivated can be a challenge so that is why continual education is very important here at Bella.

Indira takes on that challenge by trying to be more technical and creative with each class she attends.  Creative Cutting taught Indira how to position her body while cutting which will help create the proper angle to produce the best haircut and final product.  “Learning how to improve your skills and refine what you already know is a must”, says Indira. Due to refreshing her skills, Indira’s haircuts have become  much easier. Indira also learned how to communicate clearer with her clients.  Allowing her to put them at ease and enjoy their time at Bella.

For Katie, this was her first creative cutting course. She learned how to be more precise and to slow down with her precision and sectioning of the hair.  To generate a brilliant cut, it is important to cross check even sections to eliminate taking short cuts.  “This class taught me how to develop my techniques, so I can create the best looks and styles for my clients,” says Katie.  “It was a wonderful experience and has made me a better stylist.”

This was the first venture to Redken for Brittany and Abby and second for Katie, who previously participated in a cutting class. After returning from the trip, Brittany is eager to put her new skills into practice. "Redken has a great way of teaching while maintaining a high level of motivation. Planning Your Next Bella Visit: Old Georgetown Road Work

Just like visiting the salon to freshen up your look, Old Georgetown Road is due for some help from the experts.

If you use this route to visit us, please be aware of a resurfacing project currently underway. Projected to last until the fall, construction will cause lanes and sidewalks to close. Please keep in mind the following:

• During the construction phase, one lane will be closed Mon-Fri 9am to 3pm and Sun-Thur 9pm to 5pm
• During the paving phase, two lanes will be closed Sun-Thur 9pm to 5am

At Bella Bethesda, every bride is treated as the truly unique individual she is and our staff strives to deliver the picture-perfect look for each wedding day. Bella’s special bridal team works one-on-one with each soon-to-be bride to make sure every detail regarding her wedding day look is accounted for from engagement to honeymoon.

We sat down with Erin Adams, Bella Bethesda’s bridal consultant, to learn more about the wedding process at the salon and what each bride should know as she plans her big day. 

1. Book early. First and foremost, a wedding day look needs to last beyond “I do”, so to achieve the quintessential story book wedding it is important that planning for hair and makeup be just as timely as buying the dress. June through September is an extremely popular time for weddings and weekends are booked early and fast. Once a wedding date is picked, it is best to allot plenty of time to book an appointment.
2. Communicate. We want your day to be even more amazing than you’ve imagined. It is key that the bridal team understands each bride’s needs and accounts for all the excitement that will take place throughout the day. “A lot of brides come in thinking ‘when do I need to start my hair and makeup services?’ but really the question needs to be ‘when do my services need to be done?’” says Erin. Sharing wedding day details with the salon will make sure you aren’t missing in action on the big day. 
3. Stay Organized. Everything is connected throughout the day of your wedding, so it’s important to have details in order. Having a clear image of what your wedding day will look like will help the salon accommodate you and your bridal party. Time of the ceremony, pictures before or after, and the amount of people in your party requiring hair and makeup services all determine how much time is needed to get the job done- and done well!

A February Filled With Love

It was a heartwarming Valentine’s Day this year at Bella Bethesda Salon as we celebrated our Fourth Annual “Cut It For A Cause” campaign. It was great to see so many new faces join us throughout the week and offer their help to those in need.

We are excited to announce that we successfully surpassed our goal because of the generous support of 39 individuals. Originally, setting out to collect 250 inches of hair, we almost doubled our goal by collecting well over 400 inches! A big thank you to our loyal and new customers with their extra long locks. The hair will be sent to Locks of Love where it will be made into wigs and distributed to children suffering from medical hair loss, regardless of their diagnosis.

On top of the hair already collected, we’re looking forward to seeing individuals who pledged to donate come back later this year for their cut and style!

To everyone who donated this year, or has donated to Locks of Love in the past, we are so thankful for your contribution. Such a simple gift will provide a child with restored confidence and normalcy. Thank you from the Bella Bethesda staff for your kindness.
