Men's 2013 Trends, Crown Cut

For men with thinning hair, the crown cut is a good option, because it makes the most of your hair by adding the appearance of more volume on top. Have your stylist clip your hair short on the sides while leaving short to medium length layers all around the crown.  For those with receding temples, have your stylist leave hair a little longer (about an inch) all over your head.  This will make recessions less noticeable.

To style this look, work a styling paste or putty (we recommend Phyto Fiber Paste) into hands and distribute throughout mostly dry hair.  Use your fingers to position hair such that the longer lengths camouflage thinning areas.

Men's 2013 Trends, Short Textured Crop

The most universal men’s hair trend for 2013 is the short textured crop, a modern twist on the classic crew or military cuts.  This look is the easiest to maintain and will work for almost every hair type. It makes the most of your hair by adding the appearance of volume on the top while keeping the edges polished.  Make sure the longer top section blends into the sides and has adequate layers and texture.

To style this look, work a styling paste or putty (we recommend Redken Firm Grasp Texturizing Clay) into hands and distribute throughout slightly damp hair.  Use your fingers to create volume and texture where
desired.

Men's 2013 Trends, Quiffs

The iconic rockers of the 1950’s inspired this voluminous, textured style.  A personality-defining look, it should not be chosen without due consideration, as it requires regular maintenance and upkeep.  This look is achieved by taking the sides and back of the hair shorter, while leaving enough hair on top – especially in the front – to style up and away from the forehead.  Styling is key in achieving this look, so be aware of your texture and lifestyle when choosing it.  Quiffs work best on medium textures that have some natural wave.

To style this look, gently towel dry hair and apply a mousse or grooming cream (we recommend Redken Get Groomed Finishing Cream) throughout hair.  Next, blow dry hair in desired direction using either your fingers or a Redken Rough Paste) or a flexible hold hairspray (we recommend Moroccan Oil Hairspray).

Men's 2013 Trends, Slick Side Part

In honor of Father’s Day, Bella will devote the month of June to celebrating men’s hair trends.  It can be a little tricky to nail down which men’s hairstyles will be popular from one season to the next.  This is largely due to the fact men’s hair trends do not change constantly, like those of their female counterparts.  Instead, they evolve over time and are subtly transformed into a modern twist on the classics.  This series will provide a closer look into which looks are hot and how you can achieve them.

Slick Side Part
This look is inspired by those of the 1920’s and 1930’s and possesses an air of old-school charm.  It allows maximum ability to showcase your individual style, as it can be taken from classic to modern with a snip of the shears.  Shorter sides cut higher on the head combined with a longer top will result in a more dramatic and modern look.  No matter which end of the spectrum you choose, make sure your stylist keeps the edges neat and tidy.

To style this look, begin with damp, towel-dried hair.  Select the appropriate pomade or gel (we recommend Firm Grasp - Texturizing Clay) by deciding how much shine and hold you want.  Starting with a small amount, distribute product in your hands and apply throughout the hair.  Comb into desired style.
